Re: FX39
Unfortunately, Fuji 100 Acros will be discontinued this year. So I have heard. I hardly ever use it, but thought I'd try it since I got a nice new(ish) 50mm Summilux-R, 1998 version. Most of my photography is done with fast films. FP4 Plus, Delta 100, and T-Max 100 are all excellent, but again, I d...

Re: FX39
OK, folks, the testing is progressing. These times are for grade 3 filtration on Ilford MG IV paper, using a condenser enlarger. Dilution 1 + 17 (NOT 1+9!!!!!!!) The dilution given by Crawley is way too low! Suggested times at 68F/20C: T-Max 400.....9 minutes HP5 Plus........8.5 minutes Tri-X Pan......

Jim Appleyard: I don't think Ornello really believes what he is saying here. There is obviously too much evidence to the contrary concerning pushing film two stops and beyond. Either he is having fun by provoking an argument or he simply refuses to look at prints and negs that are produced by filmt...

I'm sure it could be done, but there are other films far more suitable.

1 + 9 should be plenty strong for paper. That's what I use. 2-4 minutes is all you need. Was the fixer fresh?

Re: Kodak 2302 in Ilfotec LC29
That is a very slow, blue-sensitive print film, much like an enlarging paper emulsion. Not suitable for conventional photography. It's a lab film, used to make cinema projection prints. You say 'dark'. Do you mean the negatives? It could be overexposure!

Many folks are hung up about grain in the print. My personal favorite sizes are 5x7 and 11x14. Though I tend to shoot more 120 than 35mm, what can I expect from 400-speed traditional film in either format?
TIA

You have under-exposed your film. Nothing can be done. Very, very helpful. Well, what do you want me to do? Lie? Nothing can be done. Perhaps this will help the OP to understand: http://pubs.rsna.org/doi/pdf/10.1148/radiographics.16.6.8946547 "Exposures below the recording threshold of the film (th...

Re: FX39
FX-39 seems to be appearing more often on some forums as developer of choice. Curious to read what you think of it. jim Just this past week I shot some test frames. The development times given are way too long, and dilution way too strong. Prints were made using filtration equivalent to Multigrade ...

Re: FX39
I discovered that there is a new formulation of FX-39, intended to improved stability and shipping in cold weather. I processed some film Wednesday night (Tri-X and T-Max 400) at 1+14 for 7.5 minutes. I made some prints Friday, and the negatives seem a little too vigorous to print on grade 3, so I w...

Re: 120 Tri-x @ 1600 in HC-110
Tri-X (TX) is a 400 speed film. This has been set by Kodak. TX likes to be exposed at or near 400, depending on lighting conditions and personal taste. When you expose TX at an EI other than 400, (EI is exposure index, not the same as ISO. If you have your meter set at 400, but shoot TX at another ...

Just buy it. Sodium hydroxide is a powerful alkali, not to be messed with by amateurs.

Re: 120 Tri-x @ 1600 in HC-110
Orny: please explain what you mean, "nothing can be done". tri-x has been underexposed two stops for decades, with results that have satisfied the shooter. though the results may not be satisfactory by your standards, if they were so terrible to other people, who have continued to do it, what does ...
