KennyE 777 Panthermic Developers

Post by KennyE »

I love "Rodinal", it is a great developer that to this day, till surprises us as to what it can do; and what can be done with it.

But it was one of Digitaltruth's Forum members (Ornello) that gave me the support to move into developing a new developer. And I thank him.

So I researched for days and weeks until I found the Defender/Harvey formula. Being retired, it gave me the time to search the web until I had located it. And I thank DuPont for their assistance. Because like I was told. If you are going to spend millions of dollars to purchase a company. Make sure that your investment is protected.

And there is no better place to protect your investment than USPTO.

Defender 777 is not an easy developer to produce. The standard amateur photographer would be hard press to do it. But when you are retired and have a chemical //background// and your retired friends have one as well. It becomes very easy to do.

All you need is the materials and equipment.

I could have made Defender 777. But I would've had to purchase some more equipment, and it is expensive. And I had no intentions of producing it for a living. I just wanted to see if I could do it cheaply.

I made the developer my way. Some of the operations were made simple to get to the final stage. But my overall test were very good for the final developer. The problem is..., that I never used Defender 777, and do not know what to look for, out of this developer.

So I really need some help.

I can provide only 1 10oz bottles of KennyE 777 for per person to test for me and I will pay for shipping. But here is the catch. I only have 4 bottles.

A. You must use Defender 777/Harvey 777 as your go to developer, with at lease 5 years of using it.
B. You must keep records on the use of KennyE 777, and share the results with me. Including photos. Please no nudes
C. You must reside in America, and be 21 years of age or older
D. You must accept all liabilities.

If you have not and do not use Defender 777/Harvey 777. Please do not reply. I do not want to waste my small amount of resources. Because once the testing is done. I will post the formula.

I require some serious Defender 777/Harvey 777 users for these test. So, PM me if you are.

Thank You

I remember this stuff, which was popular in the 1950s and 1960s. I never used it, but that was because I was a fan of Ethol UFG at that time.

I will continue to work with FX-15 Acutol-S, since I use mostly 400 ISO films.

Yea, I have a can of UFG, I will one day get to use it. I never used it because it was out of my budget in 1959. My allowance was only $1.50. So I used Dektol. Then in the 1960's I used D-76 and Microdol-X.

Thank You

I've used Harvey's 777 from Photographers' Formulary. The problem is that there is some disagreement over the exact formula. There's a formula on The Unblinking Eye which uses glycin as one of its developers, and I think that's the one that PF uses, but some folks on LF.info say that there was no Glycin in the original Harvey's 777. It's not my go to developer, though. I use it for occasionally night shots where detail in the highlights is critical.

The formula being sold by Photography Formulary, is Germain's fine grain developer. It is indeed an outstanding developer, but it is not Defender/Harvey 777.

It has become clear that most people today are using Germain's fine grain developer from Photography Formulary. I am not trying to sell a product or make money. I am merely trying to improve my discovery of the Defender/Harvey 777 formula. So here it is...., if you decide to use any of the formulas, you assume all liabilities. Yet I request that you leave a comment or two about your experience with them or which ever one that you decide to use or test out.

Kenny,
Do you have any further news regarding your panthermic/777 developer substitute?
Although I haven't used Harveys 777, I used to develop with AB55, which I understand is almost the same. AB55, unfortunately, hasn't been made for many years.
Kind regards,
