Jean Fage's Developer

Compensating film developer

Part A
Water 74F/23C500ml
Sodium Sulfite (anhydrous)45g
Part B
Water 74F/23C500ml
Sodium Sulfite (anhydrous)37.5g
Potassium Carbonate (anhydrous)15g
Mixing Instructions: Add chemicals in specified sequence. When mixing Part B, dissolve the 0.5g Phenidone in 25ml rubbing alcohol (70% isopropanol) pre-warmed to 122F/50C.
Dilution: Mix each part 1+19 with Water at 23C. Keep Parts A & B separate, do not mix the solutions together.
Usage: Two-bath developer: develop in Solution A for 7 mins at 23C, then pour contents out of tank into a container. Add Solution B to the container and the pour contents back into tank. Develop for a further 5-16 mins at 23C.

Example: Rollei Retro 80S or Fujifilm Acros, develop for 7 mins Solution A, then 6 mins with the addition of Solution B at 23C. Length of time in second developer will increase with ISO, so medium speed film at 100 ASA is likely to be in the 5-10 minute range, while 400 speed film is likely to be 10-16 mins.
