Re: The End Of Kodak?

Actually, I use Clayton chemicals as well. My exclusive paper fixer is AFC Fixer, and I use F76+ on occasion, as well as the CP Powder paper developer. The Kodak chems that I use are HC-110, Photo-Flo, Xtol, Dektol, Selectol Soft, Farmer's Reducer, and (ocasionally, when I'm not using just Acedic Ac...

Re: 35mm b&w processing protocol please...

For just a few rolls a month, I would try Kodak HC-110. It's concentrate form lasts for years, and you can mix only what you need. If it's not exhausted, the working solution can keep for a few weeks. The rule of thumb is 6ml of syrup per roll (35mm, 120). The grain is not intrusive, even for 35mm. ...

Re: The End Of Kodak?

I use lots of their film and chemicals. You can't get anything like Xtol from any other company. I really don't want them to go away.

Re: Kodak 400TX development time

1) The zone system is a fraud. Forget about it. 7) Throw the Picker book away. Response to # 1) Ornello's advice is good when it comes to roll film. If you are shooting 35mm and 120, the Zone System is less relevant than if you are shooting sheet film, but don't discount it entirely. I've been usin...

Re: Ilfotec-HC_Stand/Partial Stand Development

You misunderstand me. I said that I'm not worried about Ilford going away because the last time I heard, they are still doing OK. If Kodak fails, Ilford will probably pick up much of the film sales that Kodak loses. I use Ilford papers extensively, and while they aren't the best, they are consistent...

Re: Ilfotec-HC_Stand/Partial Stand Development

How is the "conventional" market in the States these days? I am also well pleased with "Digital Truth". Kodak is about to go belly-up (hopefully not), but the prices for older equipment like Hasselblads or view cameras are rising again. Film is a niche market these days, but it's a sizeable one. It...

Re: Ilfotec-HC_Stand/Partial Stand Development

The purpose of 'stand' development was to restrain highlights in the days of plates, when films had poor latitude and development. The process was more or less born of necessity. We don't really need it now. I do use a 'restrained' agitation, a little milder than some people recommend, but that is ...

Re: Ilfotec-HC_Stand/Partial Stand Development

I've used stand developing with sheet film with some success with Kodak HC-110, which is like Ilfotec-HC. I use the "Unofficial" dilution G (1:119 from syrup) for semi-stand (agitate for the first minute, and for 15 seconds every 3-4 minutes thereafter). My time for FP4 is 18 minutes, and HP5 is 20 ...

Re: fine art prints

While we're on the subject of personal preferences, I'd like to add a few "dittos" to the previous few posts. Most of what passes for photography that I've seen recently in galleries, both physical and virtual, is pointless. Notice that I said "most," because there's some good stuff out there as wel...

Re: fine art prints

Really, if there is one thing I leaned by reading the writings of Ansel Adams (and about him written by others), as well as about any artist or photographer, it's that those who are tireless self-promoters sell the most prints. That's how Weston, Adams, and Steiglitz got to be who they were. They go...

Re: Infrared film

Yes, the SFX will record with that filter. It's the same as the Hoya R72, which is actually the minimun needed to get SFX to behave like an infrared film. The Rollei IR 400 is as close as you are going to get to HIE these days, but it's not all that close. You can, however, get infrared effect with ...

Re: The Chart: Agitation and Errors

Do I have to add the info to the main chart to be able to select it? This is a bit awkward, because my App doesn't update. I was an earlier purchaser. --Gary. I'm sure that Jon Mided will answer if this can be done. I'm not sure if I was clear on this point. I didn't mean adding it to the main char...

I use Flickr. They have uploaders that can be used for batches. It's $25.00 per year for a Pro account.
