Re: Extreme film from Ultrafineonline

Actually, the poster got it wrong. He should have referred to it as Ultrafine Plus, not Ultrafine Extreme. He did, in fact, correct himself later. I have used up all ten trolls of my original purchase, but not so sure that I would reorder more. Just doesn't look right to me.

Extreme film from Ultrafineonline

Any one have a clue on who is manufacturing these products? The backing paper and packaging of the 120 looks to be Harmon to me. The 35mm I am not to sure.

Motion Pictures: fillm vs digital

Been a long time since I have posted here, but watched an interesting documentary on PBS the other night. It was produced (I think) by Keanue Reeves. It concerned the switch to digital from film by Hollywood. It seemed to be sharply divided (as usual) between the film advocated and digital advocates...

Collectibles

Where would one go to get a lead on collectible/desirable prints and photo books? I read something about this in the past b;y A.D. Coleman, but I forget where, right off hand. I would think that starting off with a modest investment would get you some very nice books or prints, if bought "right." Jim

Re: "Full Development"?

Don't recall that I tried extended development with RC, only with FB. As Ornello said, RC develops pretty quickly, so I suspect that it may not benefit from this technique so much. Split-grade printing: by my interpretation, and I am probably wrong, involves enlarging a print in two stages, using a ...

"Full Development"?

First heard this term several years ago. It was in an article written about a newpaper photographer whose pix were being published in a magazine as a retrospective. He had passed several years earlier, and his story was written by his son. He indicated that his father would sometimes soak his prints...

Re: Squeezing D-76

Ornello:
How fast is fast? I store my D-76 in a recycled green glass gallon-sized wine bottle.
My first thought after I hit the submit key was, give the chemical a well-exposed film to work on.

Squeezing D-76

Jumped back D-76 recently, as I didn't have the powders to make up a new batch of Neofin. Got some pretty good results with it rating Neopan 400 at box speed. Since I have a gallon to use, I was wondering what fellow wet darkroom folks do to squeeze the most potential from this developer. I have fou...

Gary:
Thanx for response. I did end up using Beutler's 1-1-8. Unfortunately, I may have overdeveloped/over agitated. Negs look bullet-proof.

Arista Premium 100

Shot a roll of Arista Premium 100 (Plus X ?) @ ei 50. Checked MDC and no reference is made to this film speed. Plan on using D-76 1:1. Most of the exposures were made under bright, sunny skies. Anybody have any ideas what times I should use for development? Maybe Buetlar's would be more appropriate,...

Re: I just wonder

I'm just speculating here, of course, but my thoughts are: the instamatic cameras, et al, were maybe aimed at the younger consumer, the young families that wanted to shoot the fun things and the babies, and didn't want to fool around loading and rewinding slrsand rangefinders. Put a cartidge in, sho...

RE: azo paper I've never checked it out, but I think michael smith/paula chamley are selling an azo paper. or at least their version of it. will leave others to follow up on that. as for the quality of an mf image vs a lf image, i still think it depends on the vision and technique of the photographe...

Re: fine art prints

Some good, thoughtful replies here. B&W+Color can only publish what is submitted; therefore, it will feature what is submitted. Digital is the trend, so there you are. HDR seems to be the flavor of the day. I have not seen any that I like. It looks very contrived; fake. A lot of the post-processing ...
