Champlin formulas No. 7 and No. 9, plus FR X33

Post by KennyE »

I remember FR X33, I first saw it at Detroit Camera Shop in 1963. I never thought that any one would be interested in it. I do have the original formula for that product, it is as follows:

FR X33 Film Developer

Water 22 oz.
Diotel 120 grains
Monotol 75 grains
Sodium Sulfite 2.25 oz.
Glycin 22.5 grains
Water to make 32 oz.

The formula can be found in the American Photography Journal years 1938 or 1939. Diotel, is their name for Hydroquinone (Benzene-1,4-"diol"), and Monotol is their name for Metol (("mono"-methyl-p-aminophenol hemisulfate). Oh yes, their offices were in New York, their factory was New Jersey.

FR X15 Film Developer

Water 250 ml
Sodium Sulfite 22 gr.
Sodium Carbonate 0.5 oz.
Glycin 25 gr.
Water to make 1000 ml

Development time is 30-45 minutes. Use as one-shot.

There was another company name Tuma Gas Co., that made paper and sold it as "Tuma Gas Paper". They produced a formula that was used for film and paper. It is as follows:

Water 20 oz.
Hydrpquinone 120 grains
Metol 75 grains
Sodium Sulfite 2.25 oz.
Glycin 120 grains
Potassium Bromide 15 grains
Water to make 32 oz.

They only gave a dilution rate for paper 1:4 @ 68F

Cheers.

Also Champlin formulas 7 and 9, are as follows

Sodium Sulfite 2 oz.
Benzoic Acid 18 gr.

Paraphenylene-Diamine .5 oz.

No. 9

Water 1000 mls
Sodium Sulfite 60 g.
Benzoic Acic 2 g.
Salicyclic Acid 4 g.
Rubinol (Pryogallol) 3.5 g.
Tannic 1 g.
Glycin 11.5 g.
Paraphenylene-Diamine 11.5 g.

Formulas located in American Journal of Photography 1934 and 1936

The Paterson developers are superior to any of these.
