Whatever happened to Crawley's FX18 ?

Post by pentaxpete »

Whatever happened to Crawley's FX18 film developer? When it was first published and sold in tins same as Acutol S I made it up to the formula and tried it out at 1+1 and 1+3 but I never see it mentioned now.
Times for 1+1 Dilution: Tri-X 35mm 10 mins RF 12 mins
Phenidone 0.1gm Pan f 35mm 9 mins
Hydroquinone 6.0 gms
Sodium Sulphite 100 gms
Borax 2.5 gms
Sodium Bisulphite 0.35 gm
Potassium Bromide 1.6 gms
Water to 1 litre.....................
Got COMPUTERISED and 'slightly Digitised Pentax K10D' but FILM STILL RULES !

Sorry about the layout on above: messed it up on the keyboard trying to be too clever and use the space.

FX-15 is the published version of Acutol-S.

FX 18

I haven't seen FX 18 for many years. It was sold as a PQ alternative to D76 with slightly improved characteristics and probably was not sufficiently different to have an impact on the market. I think they only ever supplied it in powder form in the red tins.

FX18 & Acutol-S have been discontinued for many, many years.
Why not try something a little more modern like Ilford DD-X which should be quite similar, but with the convenience of a liquid concentrate and a very good shelf life too.
