Agfa APX in Rodinal

Post by Niko Photo »

New to APX 400, looking for development time for the film in Rodinal. The MDC is incredibly vague for the combination shot at box speed, which I find a bit suprising given it is an Agfa-Agfa combination. (Perhaps a really bad combination, but still...) Understandably, the company website has gone by the wayside, so that source is out.

Naturally, I should test myself, but I would like to get printable results and can't get anything specific. Plus I shot all the rolls I had before concerning myself with how to develop them. Any suggestions for 35mm APX 400 @ 400 for diffusion enlarger starting times?

Thanks!

1) The film is no longer manufactured, and it was inferior to other ISO 400 products.

2) Rodinal is hardly the best choice for high-speed materials.

Why bother?

If you have already exposed the film, try D-76 1:1 and look on this site for recommendations.

If you're talking about the Agfa APX400 emulsion after 2003 it's new type (APX 400 new). Same like the last batches of master rolls (production 2005) which are bought by Rollei/Maco and available in 135-36 and 120 roll film under Rollei Retro 400. With Rodinal the effective E.I. for this film will be between iso 250-320.

Here is the tested datasheet for Rollei films. APX100 (new)/400 (new) is also Retro 100/400 compatible.

If you want to develop older APX (type) emulsions here is an older Rodinal dev. list from Agfa around 1999: http://www.fotohuisrovo.nl/documentatie/Rodinal.pdf

With the remark that also the Delta films are also changed in the mean time.
