Old Glycin

Post by foolscape »

I have some glycin from photographers formulary that has turned brown. I've had it for about a year and a half. Is it no good, or can I still use it?

Thanks!

I wouldn't bother. It won't give the results you'd get from fresh glycin. It can give a bit of a warm look on paper, but your contrast will be lower and your print ends up looking like you snatched it out of the dev too quickly. There just isn't the strength left in it to do the job.

It's a shame as it's rather expensive stuff.

Yes, it is expensive. I had every intention to use it up quickly, but my darkroom time has been severely limited as of late.

Thanks!
