fixer question

I've been fixing Tri-x film with Ilford Rapid fixer for about five minutes which seems to me a fairly generous time [the leader clears in about one minute to one minute and a half] . The negative seems perfect but i'm still getting a thin opaque mark on the rebate where the film touches the stainless steel spiral. Could someone put my mind at rest and tell me this isn't a problem. Or should i fix longer and maybe agitate more? Many thanks. Justin.

It does sound like you are not getting enough chemical movement in the process. You are correct, five minutes is at least twice enough time to fix the film. Use a slightly smaller volume of chemistry and see if you get a better result.
