Chrystalized fix from Tetenal kit: had luck dissolving it?

Post by kcf »

The fix (clear solution) bottle from the Tetenal kit can form a residue on the sides if it's stored a long time. According to Tetenal this can be "easily" remedied by "warming" the bottle.

The residue is now off the sides of the bottle after being warmed, but it's remaining in chunks that aren't dissolved back into the solution. Boiling water doesn't seem to be working, either.

Anyone resolved this problem?

I have never had that problem with Ilford Hypam or Ilford Rapid-Fixer. If the problem persists, switch over to a different brand of fixer.

The fixer is old. It has crystalized because the pH has changed to the point that the sulfur drops out. It will not go back into solution. You can do the film test to see if the fixer will still clear film. You will need to filter the fixer concentrate before using. BUY NEW FIXER.
