New Ilford Papers.

Post by Keith Tapscott. »

Ilford have introduced two new B&W FB papers. I am looking forward to trying them even though I like MG-IV FB very much.

I wonder if this was necessitated by Adox' successful mcp and mcc papers that were introduced some years ago.

I believe that the papers were designed the way they are due to customer feedback. MG-Classic FB is said to give richer blacks than the MG-IV FB that it replaces and responds more noticeably in selenium toner. That may be or not be a good thing depending on your own aesthetic preference.

The MG-Cooltone FB is the natural follow up to Ilford's MG-Cooltone RC paper which has been available for quite a few years now. The chart shows it has an excellent D-Max of blacks and is also highly responsive to toning.
