Re: FX39
I discovered that there is a new formulation of FX-39, intended to improved stability and shipping in cold weather. I processed some film Wednesday night (Tri-X and T-Max 400) at 1+14 for 7.5 minutes. I made some prints Friday, and the negatives seem a little too vigorous to print on grade 3, so I will try 1+17 next.

FX-39 seems to be appearing more often on some forums as developer of choice. Curious to read what you think of it.

Just this past week I shot some test frames. The development times given are way too long, and dilution way too strong.pirateoversixty wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 11:02 pm FX-39 seems to be appearing more often on some forums as developer of choice. Curious to read what you think of it.

Prints were made using filtration equivalent to Multigrade #3, Leitz Focotar-2 50mm f/4.5 enlarging lens, Fujimoto G70 enlarger, condenser configuration.

Many folks are hung up about grain in the print. My personal favorite sizes are 5x7 and 11x14. Though I tend to shoot more 120 than 35mm, what can I expect from 400-speed traditional film in either format?
TIA

OK, folks, the testing is progressing. These times are for grade 3 filtration on Ilford MG IV paper, using a condenser enlarger.
Dilution 1 + 17 (NOT 1+9!!!!!!!) The dilution given by Crawley is way too low!
Suggested times at 68F/20C:
Kodak T-Max 400.....9 minutes
Ilford HP5 Plus........8.5 minutes
Kodak Tri-X Pan........7.5 minutes
Ilford Delta 400.......8 minutes
Fuji Acros.......7 minutes
Kodak T-Max 3200P .....10 minutes
Ilford Delta 3200....11 minutes
Rollei Infrared 400.....8.5 minutes
Ilford SFX 200.........8.25 minutes
Dilution 1+19
Ilford Pan-F....7 minutes

Unfortunately, Fuji 100 Acros will be discontinued this year.
Re: FX39
So I have heard. I hardly ever use it, but thought I'd try it since I got a nice new(ish) 50mm Summilux-R, 1998 version. Most of my photography is done with fast films. FP4 Plus, Delta 100, and T-Max 100 are all excellent, but again, I don't have much use for them.Keith Tapscott. wrote: ↑Sat Apr 21, 2018 8:16 am Unfortunately, Fuji 100 Acros will be discontinued this year.

With good technique, even with very fast films, grain is not obtrusive. Most film is overdeveloped.
