I’m about to start using FX-39. Thanks so much for working out these times. What agitation method did you use? Do the same times apply for 35mm and 120?

Thanks!

I use 35mm only.

I use Paterson tanks. Always fill the tank almost to the top, even if you are developing fewer rolls than the tank can hold.

I pre-soak the film before development for several minutes, then pour out the water and invert the tank to let it drain well.

I then pour in the developer (again, almost to the top) and begin slow, gentle inversions (with rotation) for the first 30 seconds.

I then agitate in the same manner (two gentle inversions with rotation) once per minute.

Thanks for your detailed helpful reply. Have you tested Ilford FP4+?

Not yet, but I would suggest 1+17 for 7 to 7.5 minutes to start.

Many thanks! I develop with the intention of scanning the negatives. Should I reduce the development time?

Our film developing schemes are almost identical. The only part I am ambivalent about is the prewash. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. As I have said before, I shoot mostly 120 as I prefer the bigger viewfinder image. What is your preferred film with this developer? I have been using Ultrafine 400 Extreme for a number of years, but plan to change over to Bergger Pancro 400 when I use up my present stock. Also have some of the mythical XR-1 mixed up that I may use.

I would not recommend scanning B&W negatives. It doesn't work well.

Ilford Delta 400 seems rather sweet with it.
