cinestill xx developer and fixer

Post by rroip »

Hello,
I'm trying to find any usable information on how to use eco pro developer and fixer, due to lack of usable documentation. All I was able to find is 7 min dev time at 20C standard and nothing much else if I want to push it to 1600. Dev chart is useless in my case, 1600 at 20C for 25 min, no way I'm spending 25 min to develop a B/W film, there are other developers that do it in a lot less time. Does any one have any experience or info on how do I calculate push time for Eco Pro at 24C temperature?
Thank you.

Hi,

Developers have different characteristics. Pushing film alters the tonality by modifying both exposure and development to get a usable negative in conditions where there is not enough light for normal exposure, or if you want to increase grain and contrast for an aesthetic effect: any time you push film you will trade off loss of tonality for these other benefits. Bear in mind that all times are starting points, so if you develop for 25 minutes in Eco Pro, you should get a usable negative and might be able to work out a shorter time at a higher temperature for comparison. If you don't want to wait 25 minutes, then you need to use a different developer with different characteristics.

To work out a starting point time for 24C, you can use the Time/Temp converter:

Thank you for the temperature conversion tip, I missed it for some reason. I ran developer at 24C for 17 min and photos turned out to great.

That's great. We will add the data to the next update of the chart. If you want to be included in the list of contributors, please send your name by email or message us.

Yes, absolutely. I'll do the next test of 800iso at 24C and report back to you.
