Ilford Micro-Neg Pan / ID-2

Post by denefdt »

Hello all

I've come across a couple of tins of unperforated Ilford Micro-Neg Pan. The development insert says that it's recommended to develop in ID-2 1+2 for 5 minutes.

Can anyone advise what and if I should use ID-11 or an alternative?

Thanks in advance

David

You might find this article of interest - https://www.photomemorabilia.co.uk/Ilfo ... PJun60.pdf

To quote, regarding your thoughts about a suitable alternate developer to Ilford ID-2 for this film, the article states: "If you want to experiment, by all means do so, but don't write in telling us that you didn't get good results with ID- I I , Microdol, JD48, or any other developer. They are good developers, but they are not designed for this film."

We'd be interested to learn of your experience with this film...

Dear Fred - simply WOW! @retrofred

Thank you so much for this article.- in itself it has answered all my questions regarding shooting with this film, especially the para where it states
"Ilford, in fact,
do not give a speed rating for Micro-Neg, simply
because exposure is critical and under the conditions
for which it is designed (where lighting remains
constant from picture to picture) this can be better
determined by the us.er"

So the first attempt with ID 11 1:1 shooting through my Bronica 645 (Heath Robinson affair because of the non-preformatted film) started with great optimism which ended in total disappointment. I measured exposure using a light meter and I really should have bracketed as we do with new film combinations - I didn't and I got a highly overexposed negative.

With the advice in this article - I'll be more diligent.

I'm still going to try and play with some forms of ID11 or Rodinal as Tetenal Neofin is not available in South Africa.

Will keep you posted.

Regards

David

David,

Goeie môre... hoe gaan dit met die Ilford Micro-Neg Pan?

The Tetenal Blau (Blue) developer is available from Fotoimpex - Germany. Here is a link to their page - https://www.fotoimpex.com/chemistry/tet ... -conc.html

Foitoimpex has, as far as I know, a good reputation for their on-line trading. The developer seems quite expensive but then you have a specialist need, Thus, based on the article I sent you... buying the Neofin Blau (Blue) from them might workout well, depending naturally, on how much of the film you have to process and how deep your pockets are...!

Living is South Africa virtually guarantees using the Postal service to be a high risk venture - consequently a courier delivery service would, although more expensive, be the best option. Why not include a few other goodies in the parcel in order to get the best value delivery cost over a larger value purchase?

Hope this helps, take care - totsiens!

I wonder how old the film is and if it's still useable.
It will be interesting to see your results.
Personally I think I would be inclined to use a film such as Pan F Plus, TMax 100, Delta 100 or 100 Acros and Perceptol diluted 1+1. Take care about exposure and development.
As the article says, good camera and lenses are required and a sturdy tripod to ensure optimum sharpness etc.

Good luck with the micro neg film.
