Cyanotype

Cyanotype process

Part A
Distilled water125ml
Ferric Ammonium Citrate25g
Part B
Distilled water125ml
Potassium Ferricyanide17g
Mixing Instructions: It is a good idea to prepare the chemicals at least 24 hours before use to ensure that they are completely dissolved. Both solutions should last indefinitely if stored in opaque containers.
Dilution: Use undiluted.
Usage: To coat: Under safelight conditions (or in a very dimly lit room) mix equal parts A and B and apply to etching or watercolor paper with a brush (without metal ferrule), sponge, or by immersion for 2-3 mins. Allow to dry. Paper may be stored in a light-tight box for several days.

To expose: Place the negative in contact with the surface of the coated paper using a piece of glass or a contact printer to keep the items flat. Expose the image to a natural or artificial UV light source (eg. sunlight, sunlamp). Exposure times vary greatly depending upon the strength of the UV source and the density of the negative. Run some trials or test strips to determine a good exposure time.

To process: Rinse the print in cold water for about 20 mins.
